Meeting the Team!

We hope you had a lovely weekend fashion lovers! We’re back to introduce you to another member of the Shoppalu team!

This week, we introduce you to Samantha. Take a look below at how she answers some questions about herself, her contribution to the site, vintage clothing, and Canadian fashion.

1. What is your role as being a part of Shoppalu?
I am currently a Junior Buyer and Online Associate director at Shoppalu.com. I write the blogs, and assist in choosing merchandise that is picked to go on the website.

2. How did you get involved with Shoppalu?
I was introduced to Janice by one of my good friends, and we hit it off immediately.

3. What do you enjoy most about working with Shoppalu?
I love seeing the history within each piece of vintage clothing that is found. Being able to take a look at a piece of clothing and see which era it originated from and how we can incorporate it into modern day fashion is quite intriguing.

4. If you could choose one period of fashion to go back in time to and experience, which would you choose?
Without a doubt you would find me in the late 1960’s to the early 1970’s. Everything about that time period just puts a smile on my face. The fashion that originated from that time speaks to me the most, and the political movements, music, and people of the era are just the icing on top of the cake.

5.What do you consider one staple piece that you currently have in your closet?
Definitely my dads vintage Gucci watch that I just recently discovered. Now that I’ve found it and have begun wearing it day to day, I can’t imagine ever parting with such a classic, timeless piece.

6. Who would you say is your fashion icon?
Without a doubt I’d have to say Cara Delevingne. Her ability to mix hard and soft forms of fashion is just outstanding. She is stunning and I consider her a fashion chameleon in the fact she has the ability to not stick to just one aesthetic.

7. Which fashion house do you admire most?
This is a tough question. I have such an admiration for a variety of designers. I love Chanel, naturally, for the simple and classic look.

8. If you could describe your style in just a couple of words, what would you say?
Classically edgy.

Courtney is currently a law student living in NYC. Her blog GirlAvantGarde includes fashion advice, recipes and day to day inspirations. Check out our Q&A with Courtney!
1. When did you start blogging?
I’m a new girl to the blogging world. Although I’ve thought about blogging for a while, I started a little over a month ago and I’m excited and humbled by how fast my blog has grown in such a short period of time. I started taking photos this year in law school as a sort of stress reliever. I enjoy taking photos of the little things that make me happy everyday, whether its the first spring flower blooming in a park or a pretty new nail polish color I’m trying out. Blogging is my creative outlet and a wonderful place to look back on my photos.
2. What has been the strongest influence in your life (thus far)?
My biggest influences in life include my family and my boyfriend. My parents have instilled me with the confidence that allows me to be unafraid to try new things, and I know that my boyfriend and younger brothers will always be my biggest supporters. My biggest fashion influences, though, include Coco Chanel, Audrey Hepburn, and Brigitte Bardot.
3. What advice would you give someone trying to get into fashion blogging?
I’d say to just go for it. I was initially hesitant, but I’ve found the blogging community to be so warm and supportive. Take a lot of color, quality photos and pick a simple template for your blog. Most importantly, make sure that your personality shines through in your fashion and your stories; that’s what makes your blog unique and interesting.
4. How do you describe your style and aesthetic? Items you try to incorporate into your daily outfit…
I’m drawn to feminine silhouettes, lace, and tiny sparkly details. I wear heels or wedges almost everyday. While everything about my style screams girly, I also love classic pieces like big gorgeous stud earrings and simple black or nude pumps.
5. What is the other half of your double life? Besides blogging?
I’m currently a law student in New York. Although I’m constantly moving at 100 mph, and sometimes a little overwhelmed, both law school and fashion blogging allow me to channel my creativity in different ways and I feel so lucky to have these opportunities. I know it’s a bit of a juggling act, but it works for me!

Now we jump to Vienna

We get on an easyjet flight this week and hop over to Vienna for a little Q&A pow wow with Borjana. Hailing from Bosnia, Borjana now lives in Vienna, documenting her love of fashion and travels through her blog Beeswonderland. There’s always been distinct flavors of style when you cross a border in Europe, but when styles meet through varying cultural backgrounds, ones addiction to the internet, and appreciation of inspirations that weren’t available to our parents’ generations, a new layer gets added onto style. I love B’s take on punk rock and the clean shapes and lines that dominate the runways of 2012. Check out our Q&A with her below and I think you’ll see just how appealing her cool aesthetic is to me.

Purely <3

Vanessa Santos is the name behind the brand and blog, Pure Lovers. This Portuguese beauty combines a strong style of her Mediterranean influences and the trends of the West Coast and Australia of today. Vanessa’s beautifully stylistic back drops, attitude and of course a fierce closet of clothing makes this blogger one to watch.

Vanessa’s wearing a Shoppalu vintage sequin top.

1) How long have you been blogging for? What made you start?

1 ) I’ve been blogging for two years now. The fact that I loved fashion so much, was my main reason to start blogging because when you blog you can share what inspires you, what captivates and fascinates you, with the entire world. I really wanted to share more about my passion with people around, so that’s why I’ve started it. Everyone of us have a particular vision about something and fashion is all about being creative and being unique, so I thought “why not?” and it was the best decision ever.

2) How would you describe your aesthetic?

2) Well, I’m really mixed. I have a passion for vintage… because I think by wearing timeless pieces and adapting them to your own style, you’ll be creating something unique. I also love leather jackets, some great heels and blouses. In fact, I think I like pretty much everything because I like the feeling of trying and experimenting something new all the time.

3) Your perfect outfit consists of?

3) My perfect outfit consists on a leather jacket, some heels, high waist-ed pants and a blouse or a little black dress… and last but not least, a dark or red lipstick. It can make a difference.

4) A Spring trend you can’t live without…

4) The nude tones, I love them!

This can be seen throughout my wardrobe, design work, and also my room too. 3) Your perfect outfit consists of? A perfect statement bag!
