Over the past few weeks we’ve been keeping a close eye on the various fashion weeks that have taken place internationally. From New York to Paris, and everywhere in between, we’ve been compiling what we believe to be next seasons hottest trends. Better to start thinking earlier rather than later, right? After doing so, we’ve have compiled a list of eight of our favourite trends that we’ve seen on the runway for Fall 2013. Take a look below to see what our Fall 2013 fashion trends are.
Alexander Wang, Chanel, DKNY, Gucci
Next season we can expect to see a whole lot of “Boxy Outerwear”. Perfectly Ideal for the colder months as they leave room for being practical and layering underneath. A very 60’s vintage inspired trend.
Oscar de La Renta, Alexander Wang, Proenza Schouler, Reed Krakoff
Move over black! Gray has become the new neutral for Fall 2013! Using different shades and fabrics of gray and compiling the perfect outfit head to toe, looking chic this fall will be no issue.
Ann Demeulemeester, Calvin Klein, Hermes
This fall you can easily make a huge statement by wearing a leather top. This is a great alternative to bring a bit of a harder edge into your wardrobe without going over the top.
Oscar de La Renta, Ralph Lauren, The Row, Victoria Beckham
The “Luxe Tux” is a great way to wear a suit while still looking feminine and sexy. With a variety of different ways to style a nice jacket and pant, this trend leaves room for interpretation allowing you to find what works best for you. From a vintage look to a modern look, this is perfect for Fall 2013.
Mulberry, Saint Laurent, Tommy Hilfiger, Victoria Beckham
“Modern Plaid” is a great update to the regular (sometimes farmer) looking plaid that we’re used to seeing. From smaller scales to larger ones, this trend will definitely help you stand out and looking fashionable.
Christian Dior, Moschino, Vera Wang
We’ve seen the “Peplum” trend for the past couple seasons, and we are definitely not complaining. This trend is fun, flirty, and feminine. It has been revamped in various ways for Fall 2013 and we couldn’t be more excited.
Emporio Armani, J. Mendel, Ralph Lauren, Tadashi Shoji
The “Velvet Dress” is going to be the perfect Holiday Look this season. We can already feel is. This trend brings the perfect vintage feel and flair that we love in fashion. From long to short, we cannot wait to be rocking this come fall.
Gareth Pugh, Vanessa Bruno, Victor & Rolf
A great, simple trend for Fall 2013 is wearing White on top and black on bottom. This trend leaves a tremendous amount of work for every fashionista to bring their own spin to it and make it work. This will definitely be our “go to”!

With a New Year in our midst, we look at new trends, new fashion, and new opportunities. However, even though we’re quickly moving into the future, we must also embrace what was once apart of the past. This weeks trend embraces the old and the new as we look at how “70s Prints” have taken over the Fall 2012 season. Bold colours, geometrics shapes, and retro patterns make for a great, chic new, yet vintage inspiration. Check out how designers such as Prada, Marni, Miu Miu and others brought an old look, some new life on the runway.

As we all know, fashion designers tend to take inspiration from a number of different sources to make their collections stand out and tell their story. These inspirations can range anywhere from a memory, to a specific place in the world. This weeks trend has designers pulling inspiration from old Italian Architecture and paintings, which is called Baroque. Designers such as Balmain, Lanvin, and Versace have consistently shown a favouritism to this trend in the past, but this season several other designers have also shown their appreciation for it. This trend easily represents opulence, wealth, and a sense of royalty. The detailing is very intricate and and very unique in comparison to many other trends. Baroque pieces can range from a full dress, to a simple ring. But whether you decide to go all out with Baroque or more simplistic, you’re definitely going to still have a stand out piece that will be a head turner. Check out how designers such as Dolce and Gabbana, Balmain, Jason Wu and others used Baroque in their collections.

It is officially October, and unfortunately we can no longer hang onto any last bit of summer. Fall is in full swing. We may as well just embrace it, because even though we may be down in the dumps, Fall can bring some amazing things as well. The leaves are beginning to change colours slowly, but soon enough we’re going to be seeing beautiful hues of oranges, yellows and reds all over. Taking inspiration from the changing colours on trees, our wardrobe palettes begin to change as well. We begin to look towards darker, richer colours to correspond with the season. That’s way today we’re focusing on a colour that we are definitely going to be seeing a lot of, and that is burgundy. Designers such as Alexander Wang, Christian Siriano, Jason Wu and many others showcased burgundy within their Fall 2012 collections. Check them out below!

While the collared shirt is more of a classic than anything, how it always seems to adapt itself into the current trends’ aesthetic makes this key piece a fashion marvel. Having gone to a school with a uniform, the trend then was to roll up the sleeves and have the top button(s) undone - making the shirt look as casual as possible.

Britney Spears was probably the inspiration that caused us to go to such, as my mother would call “sloppy,” lengths. Anyone with buttoned-up cuffs or collar was considered, well, a ‘nerd’ or social pariah. Paired with a uniform skirt to the knee, or GASP past the knee, the person in question was either a tad odd or hadn’t yet learned the ropes.
Now, fast forward to the workplace, the collared shirt is a key way to show the world that you’re a) professional and b) know what you’re talking about.
The current iteration of the collared shirt is buttoned-up the whole way (maybe those so-called “nerds” knew what they were doing). Collars are definitely a big focus for designers and in most of the Fall 2021 RTW shows there was nary a collarbone in sight.
