In fashion, there are always faux pas that are pretty much shunned by the rest of the fashion community. However, some of these faux pas that we have been turning our noses up to for as long as we can remember are becoming more and more acceptable each passing fashion season. We here at Shoppalu are now here to help you out with turning these faux pas into great outfits.
The faux pas that we’re looking at today is mixing different prints. Often enough, when prints are mixed, an outfit can look too busy and even tacky at times. However, when done right, mixing prints can look chic, and really bring a new sense of life to your outfit. Here are some pointers for when mixing prints:
1. It’s important that when choosing prints, you try and keep colours within the same family. This will tone down the outfit whilst still achieving the look that you want.
2. It’s important that you try and choose two different sized prints, preferable a smaller print mixed with a larger print. This keeps your outfit from looking too busy and overwhelming.
3.If wearing more than 2 articles of clothing, try and only mix prints of two (maximum 3) pieces. For example: top and bottoms, top and clutch, skirt and clutch. This is important because if mixing prints with every possibly article of clothing, the outfit will become very overwhelming and straining to any eye.
When dressing yourself in a “faux pas done right”, it’s important that you trust your instincts while working with your own personal style. Check out below for some great “mixed print” outfits.

A stylist who has made the blog rounds, we love Marina’s knack for putting together vintage pieces with designer duds and mixing them with affordable pieces. Marina was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, growing up in Buenos Aires and the Berkshire Mountains which is reflected in her own personal style.

Moving East this week from Italy, we focus on Paris, France for their much anticipated fall fashion week which took place February 28th- March 7th 2012. In Paris we saw some new trends, and some trends which have become familiar to us throughout each Fashion Week covered thus far. Some of the biggest design houses known in fashion today showcased their designs this week which included Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Lanvin, and many more. Some of the main trends we saw this week were leather, fur, the colour green, and feathers.
The first trend is one that we’ve seen time and time again. That is: Leather. Leather proved to be huge at Paris Fashion Week, from little embellishments to designers creating whole ensembles out of leather.

The next trend seen this week is not for the very ticklish. This trend was: Feathers. Designers added some fun and flare to their designs with feather elements which moved beautifully on the runway.
Alexander McQueen Fall 2012 RTW

One of the colours that definitely stood out on the runway this season was the colour green. Designers showcased the colour green in a variety of different shades, not shying away from the colour for the Fall season.
Chanel Fall 2012 RTW
Hakaan Fall 2012 RTW
Hermes Fall 2012 RTW

The finally and familiar trend we saw on the runway this week was: Fur. Designers offered this trend to fashion week goers as a way of offering a stylish sense of warmth for the season.
